So much to say…

oh my, do i have a lot to tell…where do i start? i know. GUITAR HERO II ROCKS! ok, now that i got that out of my system. see, my brother-in-law german sent it to us as a chistmas gift (we just got it on friday) and thus far has been one of the most time consuming gifts ever. however, next to DDR, it is by far one of the coolest and funnest games ever. i’m so glad my friend kristina bought it on new years eve to play over at out place-we ended rocking out into 2007! and had a live audience of our own in my apt till 3am. now that there are two guitars-oh, you know we’re going to have to have a guitar hero party (although Kristina will be having one as well as her house warming party). all i know is that i’ll probably get carpal tunnel from it, but at least, for now, i’m living my rock star dreams.
well, these last few days haven’t been all about guitar hero. in fact, it’s been one of those weeks when i wished i worked closer to home. so much work to get done, not enough time in the day-and then driving home for 1.25 hrs-not cool. (this is why i’ve been m.i.a. on my new and exciting blog. there is so much i want to do here). on the bright side, my co-worker dave made my day last thursday by teaching me a simple line of html so i can make words link to images or sites online. to try it out i went to my previous entry and linked a few things. this is great because i’ve been wanting to thank tony for helping me with random blog questions (and in a way inspiring me to do my own blog-thanks tony!)
for a brief camera update: turns out that the great deal on the rebel xti has caused that they be sold out-till july. so instead, we’re going to take advantage of a even better deal on the rebel xt (which from what i’m told is a great camera, in fact, probably very similar to the xti-but instead of 10 mpx its 8, which is more than fine) and then in the summer when the xti becomes available, sell the xt and upgrade to the xti. works out as a pretty good deal. in the mean time, i had camilo check out a digital slr from school so i could play with it in the mean time, except than when i went to play with it, there was no memory card. so the wait continues…
and for today’s highlight: as i was talking to my uncle over the phone, i got a pleasant surprise in my mail inbox. turns out that a random email i sent out on new years eve in an attempt to reach a family member i’ve never met-got forwarded to her and she replied! (this will make sense in a minute) so on new years eve, i discovered a program that helps you chart your genealogy chart. it’s like this database program where you can input info on everyone in your family and it keeps track of the children, wifes, etc (it’s pretty cool actually). a while back, i had started documenting the ‘veulens’ side of the family-but i abandoned it when it became confusion to keep track of. so after i discovered this program, i discovered this other website (ancestry.com) where when i typed in my last name into their NewYork passenger lists from 1820-1957 thinking “what are the chances that anything will come up?” (my family is cuban-with french ancestors). well to my surprise-three names came up! that’s a lot-it’s not at all a common last name. well after speaking to my grandfather, and confirming that it was in fact family-i got trapped (ok, maybe a little obsessed) in the internet world seeking for whatever bit of information i could find. so i sent a few emails out to people that i thought might be of help, and one in an attempt to reach marietta veulens who lives in the uk. well, after speaking to my uncle i learned that he and marietta are first cousins and we great friends growing up. and that the last heard and spoke to her was before he exiled himself to russia (i think it was russia-he’s in the us now). both my uncle and i are very happy that marietta and i’ve made contact with each other. i can’t wait! i am very interested in getting to know her better, i have a feeling we might have a few things in common (music for one!). already a reply email is in the works-but it’ll have to wait till tomorrow to get finished (i’m replying in spanish so it’s going to take me a little bit longer).
