the magic pill

the morning started off by convincing my mom to walk over to jp licks for some hot chocolate. afterwards we walked over to cvs to pick up my 10mg prescription for valum so that i wouldn’t be anxious about my surgery. having never taken valum before, i was actually looking forward to see what it was all about (so focusing on that helped me keep my mind off of the while dentist visit). once we came back to my apartment to have a toast and finish out hot chocolate, we set off to our journey towards the dentist located in walpole. half way there, i took my little magic pill. i was supped to take it an hour before surgery, but since i wasn’t sure what the effects where, i needed to make sure my mom new where she was going-so I waited till half an hour before to take it. we got there just fine. immediately after i took the pill i didn’t feel any different, but i did noticed that was was really relaxed once i got to the dentist. once they called me in that i was sitting in the evil chair they asked me how i felt-and i said i wasn’t sure what i was supposed to feel, but i told them i felt really chill. they were like ‘yup, sounds like it’s kicking in’. true-i was so stoked. the part where they had to stick like 5 needles in my mouth to apply the local anesthesia was no fun-in fact in made me nauseous. but my doctor was actually pretty cool, she offered some laughing gas (which was also a first for me) which i said, sure why not? suddenly i felt as if i was no longer in that chair and instead in the zen state of mind. i have to say i felt pretty damn good. anyway, once she started yanking around in my mouth, i checked back into reality for a bit, long enough to try to hold my head in place (to counter pull her pulling) and be somewhat helpful instead of dead weight. i’d say it worked out pretty well… half and hour later both right wisdom teeth were out and i was done. she didn’t have to drill, she said she didn’t want to do that (last year the guy that did the procedure to my left side was kinda a jerk and couldn’t get over the fact i didn’t want to be put asleep for the procedure-and he drilled at one of the teeth to get it out) and she has a good attitude about the whole thing. so overall i was really happy with how it went down. o had a lot of swelling, and the corner of my lip got a little damaged-but i got to keep my teeth (sorry, i know it’s kinda gross, but i think it’s cool)! anyway, i’m glad my mom is in town-i’m really not sure what i would have done without her around to look after me…i know, i’d probably be eating bad canned soup and be moping around the house miserable. i have lots more to tell…but it’ll have to wait till tomorrow, i’m actually in a little pain.

what nicely shaped molars! i think i had the last of my wisdom teeth taken out when i was 25. they were malformed, sort of like j-shaped hooks. another time, age 22, that dentist had to crunch the wisdom tooth and shards of enamel landed on my leg. fun! a few years ago i went with a friend to get her wisdom teeth taken out. she said her dentist wouldn’t let her have the teeth because it was considered a biohazard - i thought that was kind of weird. good luck with your recovery!

thanks! i think my bruise is slowly but surely creeping it’s way down to my cheek as i gets darker. if i’m lucky, it’ll go away by wednesday???

i still have my other set of molars that i had taken out last year-one of which the dentist had to drill to get out so it’s in two pieces. you know, it’s not the first time that i hear of people not being able to take their teeth home, my coworker told me a similar story today about a friend of his…how can it be a biohazard? i’m just glad i got to take mine home (=

I think it’s pretty cool you got to keep them. I have one of my dad’s wisdom teeth…. it’s never been hazardous, except for that one time that I almost choked on it, but then again, what was it doing in my mouth??? Gross.

My dentist just told me on Tuesday that I have to take my wisdom teeth out. I am not looking forward to it. Lets see if I get to take home my teeth.
