you can tell mom is home when…

your pantry is as organized as it’ll get:

there is enough arroz con leche to last you for a couple of days:

the cat is just chillin’ with the hubby while browsing the net:

your kitchen smells wonderful and the stove is put to the test:

and you give in to having arroz con bistec with chicharos:

…who cares if you can barely open your mouth and only have half a mouth to chew it? just use a small spoon and fork, cut the pieces of steak small, and tilt the head to the left when chewing-it worked for me! i did end up with some pain in the end of the night, but nothing a few prescription pills could take care of.

ps. if you’re interested in an english version of the arroz con leche recipe, try this. (the other link i used was just so funny!) this one is pretty close to how we do it, however we don’t put margarine or cloves in it, we do add a little vanilla extract and raisins are optional (i don’t like them so we omit them) and the rice we use is call “arroz valencia” which i have yet to find in supermarkets up here in boston (i had my friend luis bring some up from miami when he came after the holidays) i do wonder if you can use regular rice…i’ll have to investigate and let you know. let me know if anyone is interested.

Steak after your removal?!?!?! You crazy woman!

BTW, if you’re ever wondering about making arroz con leche w/ brown rice, do not wonder anymore. One day I experimented w/ it, thinking it would be a healthier alt., and it took what felt like WEEKS for the rice to absorb the milk…lol…it’s not worth it.

how can i resist the steak?! it just smelled soooo good!

and thanks for the tip about the brown rice…i don’t think i would have ever tried brown rice for arroz con leche-gotta give you props for trying that! i have a hard enough time bringing myself to do it with rice that’s not ‘valencia’ rice. i might have to once i run out of my miami supply.
