so let’s start with HOW. HOW is a “creativity, business and technology conference for graphic designers” in other words, a place where graphically inclined individuals-old, young in digital or print, converge and mingle and sit through workshops that we feel might be helpful or inspiring in our career (or just a good exuse to go to a new city and meet new people? i think that works too)

anywho, this year it was in boston and i finally got to go (thank you jack!). however, it being in boston meant that i couldn’t really get away from work-especially since there is a big deadline coming up AND i’m going to be out friday thru next thursday (i have to go to this wedding…) so basically all this means it that i’ve been working a full days’ worth after the conference (meaning little sleep).

so about the conference-it was so great. i meat lots of cool new people from different places, i picked up a few new tricks of the trade and had a blast at their ball! i should start scheming up something now so i can get myself to austin, tx next year where it all can happen again!

as for everything else-i’ve been really busy. i’ve taken on a freelance website job for a friends mom’s site, which i’m looking forward to since i’m using it learn how to make one. also, i’m creating an new identity
for a friend of mine that’s decided to work for herself (finally!). i’m looking forward to both these side projects actually. now i just need to figure out how to make more time available!

i feel like this is the most boring post ever-and i apologize for that. i’m just so tired-AND i still have to pack my back for a trip to miami (that i’m not looking forward to-fyi-oh well, c’est la vie!). maybe i’ll get back on during my flight down and post some pics and stuff…it’s been too long since i put up anything worth really reading. come to think of it-i’m going to email the people i met at the conference and see if they can spare some picture so i can share!

…now back to work.

maybe just a little annoyed or disappointed. won’t get into details, but i was cleaning my computer’s desktop today and felt i should post this thing i put together the other day in reaction to a situation.

it should go on the record today that i officially tried absinthe. although owning it myself for a few years now (my mom brought me a bottle back from prague-but it tastes like turpentine so i’ve never been able to enjoy it) however, i’ve never properly had it till tonight. turns out i don’t like it. :-/ tastes like licorice-ewww!

started off saturday night. luis, camilo and went out to jp seafoods for dinner with the intent of catching a movie at the theater at night-but by the time we were done eating we weren’t really up for traveling anywhere. so instead we headed over to video underground (best movie rental place ever) to pick up some movies to watch at home. We each got a movie of our chioce: luis chose The Passenger (1975), which was directed by Michelangelo Antonioni; camilo chose Thrashers’ Beers Bowls & Barneys (2004); and i selected Shortbus (2006), which was directed by John Cameron Mitch. three very different movies which we watched in that very same order listed above…it was an interesting combination of movies too-which made for n interesting evening. we started off with a movie that was very visual, beautiful scenes with very little dialog, followed by (what was very tense for me to watch) a series of clips of people skateboarding in pools-and falling hard on the concrete, ending with a movie with a few orgy scenes and lots of nudity (which was kinda hot). so at the end of the night-which was around 3am, it was a good night.

next day camilo and i brunched at dogwood, came back to check out an apt in jp, and chilled for a bit after that till i got enough energy in my to pick up the place and make a little dinner. then luis came over again and joined us to watch out netflix movie Talladega Nights (2006)…next thing you know-it’s midnight!

so here i am, monday afternoon, looking forward to that time where like in the flintstones intro i can say ” yaba daba dooooo” (this is where he’s working and the coworker looks at his watch and then pulls the string that’s attached to the bird to ring the alarm letting him know he can go home)…anyway-you get the point.

glad the week is over-has felt like the longest week ever even though monday was a holiday (of which i worked for half the day anyway!)

so tired

and ready for the weekend!

i was all dressed up (professionally) and i was as uncomfortable as can be. i reported to who was to be my boss and he smiled and pointed me towards a reception like table. i looked over and thought “what the fuck!? i don’t get it, why am i getting paid to stand around a table, there is no design work involved!” I was so mad. it was like i was tricked into working there. i kept an optimistic outlook with a bad premonition that it would work. so i stuck it out a little longer before i sneaked away and picked up the phone to start dialing the job i just left thinking “well i just left yesterday, i wonder if they’ll take me back…”

and then i woke up.

so tomorrow is friday. how i am looking forward to it… and even thinking about it, there are so many options of what to do after work. 80s prom dance party, go see sun lee sunbeam at TTs, or just chill at home. right now we’re leaning towards going to see sun lee sunbeam play-but that all depends on how the day goes…till tomorrow. good night.

ps. if anyone out there knows the trick to living life on 5-7 hours of sleep a night, can you tell me what the secret is? there aren’t enough hours in the day to live life and i’d like to know how those people out there do it. thank you.

to a nice long weekend. i’ve been meaning to write lately but haven’t gotten around to it. monday we had a nor’easter (meaning a crazy snow storm). on my way to work, everything was all white and pretty…not to mention at night when all the city lights are reflecting off the snow and make the sky glow with this slight purple haze.

you know what a little weird-lately i’ve been wanting to wear my summer clothes, and i feel that if i wore it and walked out that it would suddenly turn to 75 degrees out. wouldn’t that be cool…if you can determine what the temperature would be like depending on what you decided to wear that morning? i think maybe i’m just itching to go back to miami and beach for a little. speaking of miami, i’ve been meaning to recap on my recent trip down during the holidays. since i’ve lived in boston, this was the first time i went back and actually had a great time. and to think we almost didn’t go. heck, we almost didn’t make it out of boston in time (we left that thursday that a whole ot of snow came down). we sat in the runway waiting to get de-iced for 3 hours. fun.

one of the many highlights was hanging out with luis and irina and camilo’s brothers. this was on the following friday, we all went to david’s place on brickell-and since our friend irina (from boston) and luis (who’s from miami but lives in boston) were in town too, we had them meet us there at davids that night for drinks and fun. and of course, thinking ahead-i made sure they brought overnight needs along with a bathing suit so we could beach the next day. and well after a long night of “jager bombs” compliments of tracy (david’s girlfriend) we had a night filled with laughs, dancing, and drinking…mia style till about 4am. (lame-o boston, what’s with the 2am curfew?) we crashed on the couch and floor, woke up maybe 4 hours later, headed to the 11st street diner on the beach for breakfast and then beached for a while.

too bad it’s supposed to snow friday. oh well, till later.

so about two sundays ago, i woke up and decided we needed a new tv. since we had just gotten and xbox and rockband for christmas, i felt like we weren’t really  getting the most out of the whole gaming experience.  so after a little research and a target price set in mind, we headed out to best buy to get a 42″ lcd hdtv. and good thing we had a target price…because we overshot it by a few bucks! in case my sarcasm isn’t coming though, once we got there we were so impressed by the sharpness and color this little sony was putting out that we couldn’t resist. this is a little weird for me to jabber on about a freakin tv-but i can’t help it! this whole xbox/hdtv thing…it all looks so crazy! i think it was the xbox really, i couldn’t believe how different the gaming experience was/has advanced. and seeing it on our new tube-it looks even crazier! not to mention that when we play rockband, there is so much more visibility than there was from our previous little 20″… to imagine what everything is going to look like in say, 5 years? can’t wait!
